Like BillyP said, the worst thing that they can do is say "no" and then you might just go ask a different FSDO. I'm now down teaching at Rucker and in a different FSDO's area but the pilots here do the same thing so I know it's not just the way a single FSDO interprets the regs. In any event, we all got the S-70 type ratings and we're told that others had been doing it for years. We did the same and over the next few months several of us in the company had either flown in, called, or otherwise had the FSDO look at our docs. They said, "Sure, we do it all the time." I guess there had been a group of pilots from another AAF flying into the airport near the FSDO for years, getting a loaner car, and driving to the office with their docs. The only reason I even thought, or cared, to do it as a 60 guy was that it came up in conversation in the company area a few years back. I honestly don't know about how the FSDOs have applied any other equivalencies. I don't see where not being type-rated would preclude me from logging the PIC where I was acting as, since SOMEONE has to be the PIC, and same for the time I was not acting, but was on the controls. Whenever I'm not "acting as" the PIC, I can log whatever time I was the sole manipulator, for the same reasons as above, except in this case, I'd be the guy under the hood. He gets to log the time that he was on the controls/under the hood, and I get to log it all, as agreed. I'm allowed to log 100% of the "signed for" time because I'm acting as the PIC, just like if I was flying in say, an R22 with someone else who was under the hood, and we agreed that I'd be the PIC. Whenever I'm flying, NOT signed as the PC, I log 50% as PIC, as that's approximately the time that I was actually on the controls/sole manipulator of the controls. Any time that I'm signed for the aircraft as the PC, I log 100% as PIC. I've recently emailed my local FSDO and he's going to get me squared away when I get home. I don't have my type-rating yet, because I was told years ago that they weren't doing them for some reason (Something about it not being necessary, because there weren't any civil S-70s?). Since this is marginally related to my own situation, I'm going to reiterate it, in my own words, to see that I understand it.
